UPDATE: If you wanna know more about the 8-head ratio on shorter people just click on this link:

YES I USE ANDREW LOOMIS BOOKS AS REFERENCE.
You guys should download his stuff, they are FREE ---> [link] [link] [link] <----- CLICK AND DOWNLOAD YOU SMARTHEADS.

His style is a bit old fashioned, but there's a reason why his methods still work out.

Oh and sorry if I didn't cover details like shoulders flexibility and that the body is 7 - 7,5 head units tall and not 8. READ THE GODDAMN TEXT BEFORE YOU POINT IT OUT. Srsly. It's not like I don't know that.
It's pretty hard to fill the tutorial with everything when the size limit is 18000 px, it may sound big but for a tutorial like this, it is not that much space.

Srsly. If you don't read the text in the tutorial, you'll miss stuff.

I've been searching for a tutorial for almost two years now that would help me work on proportions, and this is the only one that helps! I love the way you explained everything.

This, my friend, is EXACTLY what I needed. I've been in numerous drawing classes and not a single one has taught me about moving the arms and how long they should be when I draw them. Thank you! Clap

I have a question though. When you're doing the perspective when the lines cross the middle line, how do we know what angle to make them?
Reply
:iconjasondangerously:
JasonDangerously Featured By Owner Jul 19, 2013
The actual angle doesn't matter all that much as far as I can tell, what matters is keeping that angle uniform throughout the process as that is what is going to set up your proportions. I haven't messed with that part yet so I can't really say for sure, that's just how I understand it from what was provided above.

Awesome tutorial. Though... One problem. The Part 2 link is down. So are the other Part link-thingies. So one has to go look for the next parts manually. :\
But it's awesome. I get this tutorial more than I get the other ones out there. This is quality. :D

Thanks so much! Andrew Loomis's books are awesome but after going through them I feel like these tutorials are a much needed simplification and summary of what he has in his books. Someone on youtube is doing tutorials based on Andrew Loomis's Head and Hands which is also super useful.

I have to say that I always seem to have trouble with drawing the human body (I'm great with drawing expressions) but you've made anatomy easy for me to understand Foervraengd, enough to give my artistic skills abit of a toon (pardon the pun) up that I needed.

But I have a question (if you don't mind.) I'm trying to be a fantasy artist you see so what is recommended head ratios for things like dwarves, hobbits and gnomes?
