Mini-tutorial: Facial Diversity by FOERVRAENGD Mini-tutorial: Facial Diversity by FOERVRAENGD
Please read description.

Motorcity belongs to Titmouse Studios.

Link to the blank meme on tumblr. <--- this meme is quite funny, also, if you haven't heard of Motorcity before you should check it out. It's a new tv-series and it has great diversity among the characters and it's very nice in general.

TUMBLR ARTBLOG <--- my tumblr is literally FILLED with mini-tutorials that I don't upload here on dA. You'll find a lot more stuff over there if you wanna see more.

The recording process of making the tutorial. <--- I mention a bit more stuff in the livestream probably.

I know this doesn't have the usual layout as my other tutorials, but that's mainly because this is one of my so called "mini-tutorials" that I post on tumblr as a set of screenshots.

This tutorial is more focused on how to make your personal drawing style more flexible, so if you are still a beginner in drawing I suggest you first look up tutorials and other resources that cover the basics.

I made this tutorial while livestreaming, so if you wanna see how much time it sort of takes me to make this guide you can just head over to my livestream channel.

This is a great tutorial and really love how you used Motorcity as references.  I loved that show and it's art style, really reminds me of Gorillaz.

Cool! This is a really interesting look at varying the faces of your characters without making some super simple and some really complex.

the middle drawing of the blonde near the top... he reminds me so much of The Undertaker (Black butler) and Kisuke Urahara (bleach) for some reason.... i think it's the hair...

Nova-Bayley Featured By Owner Aug 12, 2012
Wow, this is really clever!! :O I'll definately take this into account, I've been wondering how to make my men's faces more masculine. :D
FOERVRAENGD Featured By Owner Aug 19, 2012  Professional General Artist
some good things to consider when it comes to masculine vs feminine is things like:
- Thicker eyebrows placed closer to the eyes.
- Longer and/or bigger nose.
- Thinner lips (This applies mostly to caucasian human types tho)
- Angular facial shape, think more edges than curves
- A stronger jaw, don't always give the guy a pointy chin and narrow cheeks.
- Adams Apple!
Nova-Bayley Featured By Owner Aug 19, 2012
Yeah, I do usually do the whole thicker eyebrows, bigger nose, thinner lips, but the facial structure always looks so feminine, even when I try to make sharp edges and angles, it always looks feminine. Also I found that the proportion of the head to the body - men seem to have smaller head in comparision - makes a big difference as well.
FOERVRAENGD Featured By Owner Aug 20, 2012  Professional General Artist
men doesn't have smaller heads - they have taller bodies and more muscle mass than a female body. :)
I'd suggest you try out exaggerating the features a lot more. it might be things that you make the eyes too big and haven't tried out giving them facial hair and so on. Go all stereotype on some drawings just to get a hang on the whole "masculine" thingy.
Nova-Bayley Featured By Owner Aug 21, 2012
I kind of meant that, just that it 'seems' that they have smaller heads - I'm not good at explaining myself. Hahaha

And thank you! I'll try :D

Mike's ethnicity isn't really officially stated, but many people like to imagine him having a middle-eastern based ethnicity. Myself I see him more british (mainly because of his beatles-like hair) but I can also imagine him hispanic or italian : > aahh... headcanons<3

I love every single one of your tutorials, they are always so useful! Thanks to "Understanding Anatomy", I've been able to improve a lot in a very short period of time! This looks like another great opportunity for improvement!
KuraiOujou Featured By Owner Aug 10, 2012
I love your suggestion that we can make changes to our own original style. I never thought there was anything to the little adjustments to each doodle I did, but now I can see that it will come in handy for developing more diverse charas.

:la: Great simple tutorial
