These tutorials are wonderful! I learned so much, and they have helped me improve my art and come into my own style. I started out very "mainstream manga" as you put it, but as I practiced and found your tutorials, it has become more realistic without sacrificing the cartoony/manga style that I like just as much as realism. Your tutorial has been, and still continues to be, a wonderful reference and help to me, and I want to thank you for making and sharing this. :)

Let me tell you that this series was extremely helpful even though I don't even draw manga. I mostly do realism in the first place but I think seeing a how to on realism from another perspective if you will is quite refeshing and effective. Mad props for all these tuts. :thumbsup:

This series was amazing. I learned so much. When I started to get close to the end it was like when you get close to the end of a really good book and you feel like just not reading it and saving it because it was so good and you don't want it to end! You should turn this into a book and sell it it's so good!

I've had these nearly since they were posted, and now I'll put the time and effort to actually go through them. Even though it's a transitional tutorial from going from Manga to Realistic, it seems so well versed and detailed to help even a complete novice like myself learn the basics. Thank you for these great contributions, I'd definitely buy a printed version were you to make one.

Sorry for the long comment, I got an emotional explosion.. And I wanted you to know how great your tutorial is. ^^;
Thank you so much for making this tutorial, I've read it through, and it's amazing.
(I also love that you included as much humor as you did, it's needed with that much text)
Being unsure about my own skills ever getting better, you've inspired me to try harder.
Your skills are wonderful, and I'm aiming for that kind of skills myself. I'm currently drawing manga,
but I really want to (and need to) learn the realistic way too. I'm not very fond of going out of my
safe-zone, even though I know how important it is for me to get better, especially since I want to
be able to get into the Animation Workshop in DK and one day work as an animator or comic-artist or whatsoever.
Imma gonna take in all the advice your tutorials gave me, and go and just... Draw a lot more! :D

Oh, the terrible moment when you recognize all but one of the icons used in the picture-plane... I need a tutorial on getting a life. :/ But in other news...
I am absolutely loving this series. I had not previously known about the figure drawing tool you linked on one of the tutorials (pixelovely), so I've spent the past, oh, two hours or so on that. I'll be back shortly. My thirty second and minute sketches all look like utter crap... Never in my life have I been more proud. T_T I can taste the progress already. (Delicioso!)

This tutorials are really helpful and awesome, I've read them all ^^

but I have still One question :
How to draw fatty hair.
Well, theoretical I'd draw it with more/stronger highlights, but then it just looks like mangahair or black hair. Same problem with wet hair (well actually both look very similar so...)
Can you help me?

If you mean fatty hair as in greasy and dirty, then I only know how to approach it if it's supposed to be realism, which is also a question of painting technique. But anyhow, I'd say that greasy hair resemble wet or most hair a bit. You'd see the "sections" appear already at the top of the head (if we are speaking about straight hair I guess). When hair is greasy/fatty/dirty, it's slightly more stickier and therefore creates more visible "sections". Newly showered hair is clean from grease more or less and therefore appear as having less "sections" than dirty hair. I hope this helps out, other than that, try looking at photographic references.

Who was the geisha on the realistic, 2nd step abstraction picture? I really love it! Also, great tutorial! I don't draw manga style so I didn't really need it myself, but I can see how it's extremely helpful to those who want to make the transition and the triangle diagram was very interesting. c:
